AutoBlogged v2. 8 Released

We are happy to announce that we finally have our much anticipated v2. 8 release ready for download. This is a major update that contains hundreds of bug fixes, changes in the user interface, performance improvements and new features.

Even if there are too many enhancements to list here, we wanted to give an overview of some of the most interesting changes:

Dupe considerably improved control

Dupe checking has been greatly improved, and we have added a new method of file-based dupecheck for users who want (or are forced) to use caching in the database. WordPress 3.01 changed the way that some events were activated and was causing multiple copies of AutoBlogged to run at once. We now have prevented that from happening at all, but the most extreme cases.

External Cron scheduling

AutoBlogged now has the ability to be activated via a cron Task Scheduler. Obviously one of the advantages of this is more precise control of programming, but another huge advantage is better performance and preventing duplicates on very busy sites. External Cron scheduler also allows you to schedule updates when website traffic is to lower levels. For more information about how to use cron functionality, go into the settings and click on the feed link more info where it shows your cron URLS.

Performance improvements

For those of you who use AutoBlogged to load a large number of feeds, we made a number of improvements that will help you. Firstly, AutoBlogged is more careful with the use of general resources. However, because there are always limits on memory and execution time, traces of now AutoBlogged where he left and pick up from that point when it runs again. AutoBlogged keeps now also a magazine of history, so you can see that the feeds are expired or causing errors.

There is also a new feature that allows you to preload the cache feed before running AutoBlogged, which greatly improves feed processing times. Using the cron, firstly preload your feed, then after a few minutes to perform another task that processes the feed. See the instructions for the cron feature for more information.

New Regex function in Post templates

A new very powerful feature that allows you to extract the content from an article (or even the original page) based on a regular expression and Save it as a custom field or use in the post.

New support for Post types and Custom taxonomies

Many new plugins and themes are making use of custom post types and taxonomies. With AutoBlogged is now possible to save RSS articles like post, pages, or any custom post type that supports your site. You can also save data to any custom taxonomies using the same syntax as that post using templates.

Improved user interface

One of the first things you may notice is that you can enter more URLs or keywords in each feed. Rather than having one feed by URL or keyword you can now consolidate them into a single feed. We have also made numerous usability and visual enhancements to the UI.

New add-on extra

We have also included a new plugin directory of add-on that we thought many of you would find useful and which illustrate how to use our API to improve AutoBlogged. The new plugin include the ability to change permalinks so they go directly to the original article, skipping the posts that do not contain pictures, restore the entire site by removing all messages and content related, WordPress auto-formatting features off if they are in conflict with your feede an example of adding the custom theme support.

To install any of these add-ons, copy the folder from the directory Extras/plugins/directory and activate it in WordPress.

Of course there are numerous other improvements, including better image handling, bug fixes, improved compatibility, improved navigation, security fixes and many, many others.

You can get this update by using the Permanent download URL you received after your purchase. If you do not have this URL, you can recover from http://autoblogged.com/downloads.
